Summer Time

Welcome Summer! I love the summer season. It brings back memories of school being out, sunny days, lazy days by the pool, reading a lot of books, vacations, suntans (and sunburns), cookouts and friends. Today, June 21 has more meaning to our family than just the first day of summer. It was one year ago today we brought Matthew home from the NICU. Talk about a summer surprise. We received the call the morning of June 21, 2006 that he was being discharged. We had anticipated a few more weeks of stay in the NICU as he was still in the most critical area. June 21, 2006 was also the day Nate and Matthew met for the first time. It's amazing to see how far their relationship has come in one year. I look forward to the many summers ahead particularly the summers the boys share together.

Wishing you all a Happy Summer!

The Boys are Back

Nate and Matthew are home!! They spent last Tuesday through Saturday in Virginia at Nana and Goddy's house. Aunt Tef-Tef was a saint and watched them everyday even though she had to do all of her lesson planning for summer school. Thanks Aunt Tef-Tef!!

The boys finally got to meet the new baby foal and feed the horses everyday. As usual, Nate rode the tractor around the farm. They were spoiled for a few days going to bed late, eating popsicles and getting a lot of attention.

They are only back until Friday as Brian and I are headed to Vegas. Nate and Matthew will be returning to the farm again..........

Happy Father's Day

We celebrated Father's Day yesterday by taking Brian to the Water Mine in Reston after enjoying a breakfast of waffles, bacon and eggs. The Water Mine is a kids water park equipped with a lot of slides, pools, sprinklers and fun. We arrived right around noon and stayed until after 4:00pm. Nate and Brian rode "Big Pete" - a very large waterslide - over and over.

Brian - Happy Father's Day!! Nate and Matthew are blessed with a wonderful daddy!

To all the other Father's in our lives, including Goddy and Pappy, hope you had a great day.

Race Day Photos

Racing for the Cure

This past weekend we participated in the Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure - to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. Nate walked over one mile of the course with us, and rode in the jogging stroller with Matthew when he wasn't walking. All morning he kept telling us he was "going to the race"! It was a great experience. You truly feel empowered and inspired by the hundreds of women and men in pink t-shirts - all survivors of breast cancer.

After the 5k, the boys had a chance to participate in the Kids Race for the Cure. Nate, Matthew and Mommy did a short run around the cones and both kids received a medal. That wasn't enough for Nate! He decided to run the big course (300 yards) with the older kids. He was like Forrest Gump, he kept running and running!
